Abstract

Adult AAC users want opportunities to pursue valued adult activities, including employment, independent living, and post-secondary education; to enjoy successful communication with medical service providers; and to help prepare the next generation of communication professionals. New approaches are needed in AAC research, technology, and instruction to support AAC users in achieving these valued adult life outcomes.

In this session we will describe current research and training projects of the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (the RERC on AAC) to develop new and needed supports for the key transition goals of AAC users. We also will demonstrate new approaches to designing, conducting, and reporting research in order to promote the full participation of AAC users in research and instruction activities.
