Abstract

Reflecting on her elite sporting career and the attributes needed for success Beth realised her lifelong AAC journey had equipped her well to fulfil her dream of representing Great Britain at boccia in the Tokyo Paralympics. If she could master using AAC effectively then with planning and preparation she could apply the same types of learning to succeed in other areas of life equally well.

Underpinning Beth’s drive and determination is her passion to dream big, work hard and be resilient. Her approach to life is to begin with the end goal in mind. She covers the importance of empowering individuals to fulfil their own potential, high expectations and crucially the time commitment. The value of regular assessment and the right resources to develop technical competence through ongoing support and practice effects.  Beth then discusses self-belief, motivation, reflection, teamwork, along with how these become transferrable skills.
