John Costello, MA, CCC-SLP, has been a speech-language pathologist at Boston Children’s Hospital for 36 years where he directs the Augmentative Communication Program and the ALS Augmentative Communication Program. He founded the first dedicated inpatient AAC service in an acute and intensive care hospital where he developed the Message Banking Process, initially for children in the ICU and later expanded to support people diagnosed with ALS/MND. John has lectured extensively nationally and internationally on topics related to AAC assessment and ALS. He has authored or coauthored numerous articles and chapters focused on AAC service delivery and chairs or serves on numerous committees for the international MND, ISAAC, Team Gleason, CBD’I Milano, and others. He is adjunct faculty at Boston University where he teaches the graduate-level courses in augmentative and alternative communication.
