Kevin Pitt, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, directs the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Translation (AACT) Lab at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His research focuses on the development of emerging technologies for AAC, including brain-computer interfaces (BCI), artificial intelligence (AI), and user-centered design. His current work examines how AI can recognize emotional expression and incorporate this information into AAC systems to support more personalized communication.
Dr. Pitt’s research aims to bridge technology development and clinical practice, with projects spanning AI-based emotion recognition, BCI-AAC, visual scene displays, symbol and interface design, and other emerging approaches to make AAC more intuitive, flexible, and responsive to individual users. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF).
Dr. Pitt received his doctoral degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Kansas.
