Andrea Etkie

Andrea Etkie, PhD, CCC-SLP is an Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology at Faulkner University. Her clinical work with students with Rett syndrome beginning in 2014 inspired her research interests in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), Rett syndrome, language, and literacy interventions. She recently completed her PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she had the pleasure of conducting research at the Center for Literacy and Disability Studies. Andrea is also a moderator of the International Rett Syndrome Foundation Communication Guidelines Professional Development Network where she supports communication specialists working with people with Rett syndrome through asynchronous discussions, monthly synchronous office hours, and webinars related to the Guidelines. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies at UNC, Andrea worked as a licensed speech-language pathologist in Florida, across various settings. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Florida.
