Charlie Moran

Charlie Moran is a Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at the Barnsley Assistive Technology (AT) Team, part of Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Since joining the team in June 2019, she has played a pivotal role in assessing and providing electronic assistive technologies to individuals with complex communication needs across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Charlie’s academic journey began in Edinburgh, where she earned an MA (Hons) in English Language and Linguistics. She furthered her expertise by completing a postgraduate Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy. Her professional experience spans various settings, including schools and specialist services in both England and New Zealand, reflecting her commitment to supporting individuals with diverse needs.

At Barnsley AT, Charlie specializes in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Environmental Control (EC) services. She collaborates closely with local professionals to deliver tailored solutions that enhance communication and independence for individuals with severe disabilities. Charlie’s approach is rooted in person-centered care, ensuring that each individual’s unique needs and preferences are at the forefront of technology integration.

Charlie’s dedication extends beyond clinical practice. She actively participates in research and development initiatives, contributing to the advancement of assistive technology services. This includes her role as Research Associate on the INVITE project, and setting up the Voice Up group, a PPI group of communication aid users.

Charlie’s passion lies in enabling individuals to express themselves and achieve greater autonomy. Her work at Barnsley AT exemplifies the transformative impact of combining clinical expertise with compassionate care, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those she supports.
