Elizabeth Biggs

Elizabeth E. Biggs, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Special Education at Vanderbilt University. She focuses her work on promoting social, communication, language, and literacy outcomes for students with disabilities who are nonspeaking or have limited speech—particularly through augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Dr. Biggs started her career as an elementary special education teacher on the Navajo Nation in rural New Mexico and has extensive experience working with students with disabilities, including students with autism, intellectual disability, and other developmental disabilities who use AAC. As a researcher, she has published over 50 research articles and book chapters, and she was also the recipient of early career research awards from the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) and TASH. At Vanderbilt, she teaches undergraduate and graduate classes related to inclusive education, general education access, and literacy for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
