Ingeborg Thümmel

Prof. Dr. Ingeborg Gertrud Thümmel is a speech-language therapist (with diploma) and qualified teacher for students with intellectual and communication disabilities. Since 2004, she has been an extraordinary Professor in the Division of Special Education and Rehabilitation at the University of Oldenburg, Germany.
Her academic work focuses on the education and rehabilitation of individuals with
intellectual and severe communication disabilities, grounded in a human rights-based framework. Her current research interests include the prevention of and intervention in all forms of exploitation and abuse—particularly gender-based violence—and the promotion of access to justice for persons with complex communication needs within the criminal justice system.
