Rachel S. Y. Chen
Dr. Rachel S.Y. Chen (Ph.D, Special Education) is an Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological University, School of Humanities, Linguistics and Multilingual Studies. She conducts research, teaching, and supervision that centers disability, embodied interaction, and design. She has worked with non-speaking autistic individuals for over a decade, studying their creative communicative practices that often go amiss. Her work integrates video- and micro-analyses of everyday social interaction with the ethical design of new therapeutic tools for human perception, action, and communication. Rachel maintains an active art practice, developing inclusive environments that center sound and interactivity. She grounds her work in collaborations with allied health professionals and the disability community.
