Veena Mohan

I am Veena Mohan P, currently serving as a Senior Lecturer, Audiologist, and Speech-Language Pathologist at the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Since joining NISH in August 2014, I have been engaged in teaching, clinical supervision, and research in the fields of audiology and speech-language pathology, with a special focus on neurodevelopmental disorders and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). I hold professional registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), under registration number A23356. Since August 2014, I have been associated with NISH in my current role. My work encompasses a balance of academic teaching, clinical supervision, and research. I am deeply involved in training students in the evaluation and management of speech and language disorders, particularly in children with neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities. I also supervise clinical practicum sessions, guide case discussions, and conduct workshops and training sessions for students, caregivers, and fellow professionals.
My research interests primarily lie in the domains of neurodevelopmental disorders and AAC. I have a strong inclination towards exploring innovative and inclusive communication strategies, especially for children with autism and other developmental conditions. I am certified in several specialized techniques and tools, including PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets), Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) Level 2, Assistive Technology applications, and ACAP (Augmentative and Alternative Communication Application Practices). These certifications have greatly informed my clinical approaches and have allowed me to contribute meaningfully to individualized therapy planning and implementation.
