Candela Communication L.L.C., Rochester Hills, Michigan, United States of America
With over 20 years of experience promoting independence and inclusion for people of all ages and abilities, I have more than 10 years of experience specifically in the field of Speech-Language Pathology and AAC. I work multilingually and have extensive experience with complex communicators requiring creative solutions, including access methods, environmental controls, and mounting expertise. After working in schools and private practice, I was an AAC Specialist in Long Beach Unified School District and then L.A. Regional AAC Consultant for PRC-Saltillo. Last year I started a bilingual virtual AAC private practice, Candela Communication L.L.C., with sights on international expansion to provide access to quality AAC services in underserved areas. I am licensed to provide therapy and assessments in California, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. I have led events, including partnering with Mattel, Inc. to adapt toys for diverse access needs. I believe we all have a right to express ourselves as fully and independently as possible. I work to support education and access to AAC for anyone anywhere in the world, using collaboration, resourcefulness, and ingenuity to develop unique communication options and improve quality of life. Mental health affects all of us, and too often I find individuals who use AAC and their families without adequate support. International education and advocacy remains a priority in my daily work to increase awareness, inclusion, and self-care for all. It is only when everyone has an equal part in the conversation, that the real progress can begin.
