Jamie Preece is 49 and comes from South Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. He has cerebral palsy and severely dysarthric speech. He uses a communication device, but didn’t get one until he was 36. He has been a service user representative at Barnsley assistive technology for 9 years and has participated in various research projects in the field of AAC. He is an active participant in the AAC community in the UK and worldwide and could be described as an AAC autonomist- he believes passionately that the user should have access to the vocabulary that they choose, not the vocabulary they are given. He lives in a log cabin in a disused quarry with his partner and their two teenage children.
