Patrick Regan lives in Anchorage, Alaska. He has been an AAC user for nearly 30 years, having received his first synthesized speech-generating device when he was 2 and-a-half years old. He is the President-Elect of USSAAC, a member of its AAC Community and Awareness, Mini-grant and SABER Committees. And he is chair of the USSAAC Awards Committee. He is also a member of ISAAC’s LEAD Leadership Committee, and a frequent moderator for LEAD’s chats. Patrick is also one of the founding organizers of LEAD’s Four Seasons Book Club for AAC users. Patrick is the Coordinator of Activities and Events for Bridging Communities Through Alternative Communication (“BCTAC”), a Bridge School adult outreach program, and BCTAC’s President. He has steered BCTAC’s Leadership Committee, and has been organizing, leading and creating virtual activities for the members of that group as it has grown into a peer-led, peer support group. He is also a mentor in the school’s Self-Determination Program, and has mentored high school through other school districts in Northern California. He is a member of a coalition of AAC leaders establishing a nationwide network of resources for AAC peer support. And he is a speaker and published author on topics related to using AAC and advocacy for policy changes to support functional communication for individuals with speech disabilities. Patrick has spearheaded the AAC Community and Awareness Committee hosting Family Game Nights and Parent Nights, and other community outreach ideas and efforts, which have expanded the focus of the committee and served as the impetus for its name change (formerly the USSAAC AAC Awareness Committee).
