In people with a different cultural or subcultural background properly tailoring a treatment to the person is a challenge. The culture, the environment and experience of the client forms a developmental niche and knowledge of this is essential for the success of an intervention. However, there is often a gap between a client’s developmental niche (different culture, different language, low-literate) and that of the care provider (white, middle class, higher education).
Goal of the project is to come up with a guideline for culturally sensitive help in AAC interventions to children and young people with communication needs. We want to give care providers tools to deal with the gap in the culture, environment and experience of the client and his / her bridge communication partners and themselves and help them at every step in the aid process how they can be as culture-sensitive as possible.
