Abstract

This session focusses on training of communication partners to persons in need of AAC, all from parents of young children with communication needs not yet diagnosed, to school staff and staff of adults in residential homes and day care centers.

The swedish program AKKtiv, founded in 2005, and now being used all over Scandinavia and in some other countries is presented, overviewing the different partner training packages that has been developed and researched over the years. AKKtiv focuses multimodal AAC with a main focus on implementing aided language input using basic universal activity based boards.

Research results as well as our experiences will be shared and discussed with a focus on challenges and success factors that we have identified and worked with over the years.
